some spider
We just watched Charlotte's Web last weekend for the first time ever. From Fern rescuing the little runt to finding the perfect word, this movie struck a heartstring. And we have a visitor tonight on our deck that feels like a touch from heaven...a love gift of the humble kind. Some of my favorite quotes: Templeton: "Look at her! Don't you think she's a little...uh...what's the word? EW!"Wilbur: "I think she's beautiful."Templeton: "Are we even seeing the same creature?" Wilbur: "I guess not."Wilbur asks "Should I be worried?" Charlotte replies "Of course not, what good would that do?""Don't worry Wilbur, we'll figure something out.""You are going to see the snows of winter. I never break a promise." Wilbur: "I don't feel like I deserve any of the words you wrote about me." Charlotte: "Then it [Humble] is the perfect word."Charlotte's Magnum Opus: "We take to the breeze, we go as we please."~ ~ ~
Oh, and that little snag in her web is from the fly Rob tossed in for her.awwh! it was sweet.Wilbur: "Except for the fly."

I never saw the move but I still have the book that I read as a kid. Love it! It's up there with The Velveteen Rabbit for me.

Deep love and everlasting wisdom in those words. I think that is the most beautiful phrase that i have heard in a while.
I never saw this movie, i am sure i must have read this story as a child, but i couldn't tell you much about it. BUT i will say this, that quote will stay with me forever.
Have you ever heard something that is so simply spoken, but it leaves a "scar" etched in your mind? and it stays there until one day you need it for a specific purpose and you pull it out of the attic of your heart, blow off the dust and breathe new life into a lost treasure.
I will repeat those words someday because to me they hold a type of eternity.
That is such a cool photo! How did you do that??? Did you put it on night-view or something? I love that quote and it makes me look at something that I normally would say "Ew" too in a different light. And how in the world did Rob get a fly???
my mother Sylvia used to name spiders we would find and instruct us to "take him outside, so he can go home to his family." I don't know if this was the intention, but I've never been afraid of spiders. they always stike me as intellegent little things. especially Charlotte!
beautiful photo.
such classics sarah, i think i should have read that book as a kid, probably was supposed to and didn't. what a pity. i do know i just gave it away last month. dang!
hang onto those words poet. they're good ones.
she was radiant amy, nothing special i did except for probably over exposing. the fly, well, that pesky thing was around for a couple days; i'd tried shooing it outside to no avail. friday night probably during the simpsons or what not to wear, rob got out the swatter and that's all she wrote. couple hours later...dang there is a calvin-arminian debate in there somewhere ;)
i always take them outside too marcell. now i will think of sylvia and my great grandma susan everytime. except in the winter...then they get to go in the basement (shhhh!)
p.s. When I was a little girl, my great grandma Susan Warner used to tell us a story about spiders but her version was about soldiers who came looking to kill baby Jesus and passed by where he, Mary and Joseph were because of a spider. I know it is one reason why I don't kill spiders to this day : )
God and the Spider
During World War II, a US marine was separated from his unit on a Pacific island. The fighting had been intense, and in the smoke and the crossfire he had lost touch with his comrades.
Alone in the jungle, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction. Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves. Although safe for the moment, he realized that once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he would be killed.
As he waited, he prayed, "Lord, if it be your will, please protect me. Whatever your will though, I love you and trust you. Amen."
After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy begin to draw close. He thought, "Well, I guess the Lord isn't going to help me out of this one."! Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave.
As he watched, listening to the enemy searching for him all the while, the spider layered strand after strand of web across the opening of the cave.
"Hah," he thought. "What I need is a brick wall and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense of humor."
As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hideout and could see them searching one cave after another. As they came to his, he got ready to make his last stand. To his amazement, however, after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on. Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. "Lord, forgive me," prayed the young man. "I had forgotten that in you a spider's web is stronger than a brick wall."
We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is so easy to forget the victories that God would work in our lives, sometimes in the most surprising ways. Remember: Whatever is happening in your life, with God, a mere spider's web can become a brick wall of protection. Believe He is with you always.
