random retelling 3

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how valuable is a song that can transport you right back to a certain place in time? Some times we would rather forget. As I switched over from the usual cd selection the other day this was playing on the radio and swiiish! all those feelings came rushing back like a violent crashing wave tossed on the stormy sea to let me know that cynic is still alive and well down there somewhere and probably could use a little Jesus in that place...but for now she's just letting that part listen to the retelling of this extended chapter of the do bee di story.

by Soul Asylum

Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a blowtorch burning
I was a key that could use a little turning

So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep

It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep
There's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray

Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

Everything seems cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than dealing with the pain

Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

Runaway train never comin' back
Runaway train tearin' up the track
Runaway train burnin' in my veins
Runaway but it always seems the same

Di, please email me instructions on how to insert music the way you've done here. I need it to further my country music evangelism I'm currently involved in with Tammy!

di, i love these little snippets of your story. and i know what you mean about music taking you back in an instant. it's crazy, isn't it, that it has the power to do that?

runaway train takes me back, too. bleh. but i'm glad you're going back and sitting in that place. brave girl, you.

and hey, i'm curious about the numbering of these random retellings. this one was 3, the last one was 5, i believe another one was 4 1/2 . . . are these based on time sequences, or are they a contribution to the random-ness? :)

ps: dean, you crack me up! ohhh, it's so good to have you back, brother.

ha! dean, my more playful side wants to wait to hear from terri and see how much it's worth for her for me NOT to tell you how to upload the country bumpkin tunes although your sister totally had me at patsy today! love her!! and i love garth's cowboys & angels leather and lace salt of the earth meets heavenly grace...and if tomorrow never comes....oh alright, i'll email you ;)

christianne, oh my goodness, i love your curiousity. i didn't even know i was being so vague...but i do know i can be very very vague and not even know it! ridiculously and unintentionally vague. and the whole numbering thing...that is my valiant attempt at being sequential. ahhh! i totally suck at it! :) there is so much to this comment of yours ~ how do i even unpack it? ok first, back to the numbering; if you look back to the do bee di story, there are 12 pictures. the numbers in the random retelling coincide with the order in which those pictures appear in that first story...and yes, they are time sequenced. but i forgot to tell you that... : )

[insert marcia...BUG!]

and runaway train ... bleh. indeed.

FABULOUS! I'll eagerly await your mail. Though if this means that i put Terri off popping in and saying hello I might have to reconsider the whole venture. Tricky, this country evangelism stuff...

And, boy am I glad Christianne asked that question... I was totally befuddled by your numbering but just didn't have the courage to ask. I mean there's a limit to how many ignorance-revealing questions I can ask in one comment. So thanks C.

you're the best di. i just assumed the numbering was just an emphasis to the word "random". i know all about stumbling on my own internal cynic. not my most attractive feature.

oh, and dean...nothing could keep me away from your blog. not even a bunch of noisy country silliness. :)

Princess, thank you for being somehow the straw that broke this camel's back and sent me over the edge into blogdom. Also, thank you for your outing of my effort to become a nudist in the colony. And thank you for making me cry as I increasingly feel your story.
And now, like Dean, I humbly ask you to also email me how I can be like all the other boys and girls and add pictures, imbed you tube and music and stuff. (Now if Kirsten could only pass along her photographic anointing)
Terri, thanks for your visits to my neighborhood. Seeing your visage peeking at me from behind whatever you are peeking from behind was and always will be special to me.
Dean, thank you for opening my eyes to some commenting stuff that I continue to process...
James
